Navy Rear Admiral Chase Honors New Cumberland Hometown Heroes

Defense Logistics Agency Distribution Headquarters’ Commander, Navy Rear Adm. Grafton D. Chase, Jr., spoke to a packed house at the West Shore Theater in New Cumberland, Pennsylvania, where hometown heroes banners were dedicated in honor of Veterans Day, Nov. 11.

During his remarks, Chase said he passes the banners each day, traveling to Defense Distribution Center Susquehanna.

“I read the names, their branch of service, and my thoughts carry me to the symbols that represent the essence of our veterans and their sacrifices. The cemeteries consecrated by those who paid for freedom with their lives … sacrifice. The battlefield on every continent … courage. The warrior ethos … duty. The heart and honor we see in how each veteran conducts their daily lives … character,” Chase said.

Fifty-eight new banners were hung throughout New Cumberland Borough, replacing the previous banners hung in 2020. A bell rang after Mayor Thaddeus Eisenhower, Borough Councilman Don Kibler and Christine Leukus, president of the Borough’s Olde Towne Association read the names of each hometown hero. Pennsylvania Senator Michael Regan, Pennsylvania Representative Sheryl Delozier and Cumberland County Commissioner Vincent DeFilippo also participated in the ceremony.
