DESCRIPTION:Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) consists of products in the home which are corrosive (drain cleaners or bleach)\, flammable (gasoline or kerosene)\, reactive (chemistry kits and photographic chemicals) or toxic (pesticides and insecticides). Penn Waste is NOT authorized to pickup these materials. These materials may NOT be placed in your curbside trash. \nCumberland County offers a HHW collection recycling program in an attempt to give the residents of Cumberland County an alternative disposal method for these types of wastes. \nHazardous waste will be accepted by the County on these days. 2025 collection days are: \nThursday\, April 10\, 2025\, 11 am to 5 pm \nSaturday\, May 31\, 2025\, 9 am to 3 pm \nSaturday\, August 16\, 2025\, 9 am to 3 pm \nThursday\, October 23\, 2025\, 11 am to 5 pm \nAppointments are required and a fee of $0.75/lb will be charged. Click here for more details and to sign up.    \nAcceptable Materials\nA complete list of acceptable HHW can be viewed here. SUMMARY:Book Sale
DESCRIPTION:The Friends of the New Cumberland Public Library hold pre-owned book sales on the first and third Saturdays of each month from 9:00 am until 3:00 pm in the Foundation House located across the shared parking lot from the Library. Sales include: hardback and paperback books in fiction and non-fiction\, DVD’s\, music CD’s\, puzzles\, children’s books\, 331/3 rpm vinyl records\, tote bags\, and notecards. The Friends have large collections of all genres of books\, DVD movies\, a children’s book corner\, and “specials” during each sale.  A great selection of gently used and vintage jewelry will also be for sale.

SUMMARY:39th Annual Apple Festival
DESCRIPTION:The New Cumberland Olde Towne Association’s Annual Apple Festival continues to entertain families with music\, great food\, handmade crafts\, contests\, and lots of activities. Held in the Borough Park of New Cumberland located at Front and Reno Streets\, the festival will have live musical entertainment from opening until closing. \nCrafters offering handmade items of all types will display and sell their products.  Food vendors offering a vast array of delicious selections will be preparing and serving their items to eat at the festival or to take home to enjoy later. Many items featuring apples are available. There is an Apple Pie Contest\, a Lego Building Contest\, Entertainment all day long\, Kids Activities\, Games and pony rides. \nTrolleys will pick up and deliver festival guests on Bridge Street at the corners of Third Street\, Seventh Street\, Park Avenue and Haldeman Boulevard.  Limited parking is available behind the West Shore Senior Citizens Center on Reno Street. \nIf you must bring your dog to the Festival\, please have it on a short leash to keep it safe from the crowd\, and to keep Festival attendees safe. Be a responsible dog owner. \nApproximately 12\,000 individuals attend the festival.
