Jolynn is the current owner of Weist Hardware and has been for about 12 years. Her mother, Audrey Weist, with her husband James Weist, owned a gas station/service center located directly across the street from the hardware store. The two were making plans to purchase the hardware store and run it as they got older, but their plans changed when James got sick. He spent four months in the hospital and passed away in October 1991. Audrey went ahead with the plans. With the help of a hardware salesman and her accountant, they purchased the building and opened in April 1992. She ran the store with some employees until 2003, that’s when Jolynn stepped into the picture. She was working in the corporate world and was laid off in early 2003. Audrey’s full-time employee left in August and Jolynn agreed to help her until she found a replacement for him. Needless to say, she never found a replacement. She began cleaning shelves, running the registers and learned all of the duties needed to run the store. After a few years, she really needed a challenge, so in 2014 they started plans for an expansion which was completed in 2015. Now that Jolynn’s youngest daughter Jamie has finished school, she has been working with us as well.
Weist Hardware carries all your basic hardware needs—plumbing, electrical, painting, lawn and garden, power and hand tools, makes keys, and fix screens and small engines. Weist Hardware has been New Cumberland’s hometown hardware store for over 30 years and counting!
